MODERN FOREIGN LANGUAGES
We aim for our pupils to develop a love of the French language. We aim to provide excitement and enjoyment for children; helping to create enthusiastic learners and to develop positive attitudes to language learning throughout life.
01
Curriculm
At Saint Thomas’, our Modern Foreign Language Curriculum is designed to provide a valuable educational, social and cultural experience for all pupils. Our curriculum is designed so that children feel confident to speak, listen, read and write in French, setting them up for success in further language-learning at secondary school.
02
Aims
We aim for children to have a good understanding of French culture and also, importantly, a sense of French as a global language and an appreciation of the diversity of the French-speaking world. We aim to do this by providing a broad and balanced education, which allows students to become successful learners who enjoy learning. Language learning is planned in such a way as to encourage the full and active participation of pupils.
We encourage children to be confident individuals, who are able to communicate and understand ideas, facts and feelings with fluency and expression. As individuals, we want children to become globally aware and develop a cultural capital across the curriculum.
